Fiid Reverse Advent Calendar: How it works

Fiid Reverse Advent Calendar: How it works

I really love Christmas. I love that it's a period when people come together and spend quality time. I love that most people get at least a couple of days to relax and destress and I love that it's a natural opportunity to look back on the year gone by, make plans and set goals for the year to come.

What I don't love is the hysteria around shopping, stuff and rampant consumerism. I think the magic of Christmas can so easily get lost among the stress of the high street and pressure to consume, spend and indulge.

This year I wanted to do something a little different. It may seem like the good times are back but for thousands of people in Ireland every day is still a struggle. At fiid we believe that everyone deserves a happy Christmas and so we want to help which is why we're running our #ReverseAdvent Calendar campaign supporting SVP to help make Christmas that much easier for those who need it.

What is it?

Our Reverse Advent Calendar is just like a regular Advent Calendar except instead of taking something out every day, we're asking you to donate something instead by building a box of 12 food items to help make one family's Christmas dinner more manageable.

We're hoping that we can collect 100 boxes in the run up to Christmas which would mean a total of 1200 items and we need your help!

How does it work?

1. Every day between 1st and 12th of December (or any 12 days you'd prefer) you add an item of food to a box

2. Keep us up to date with how your box is progressing and share the idea with friends by tagging @eatfiid and using the #SVPReverseAdvent hashtag

3. Once you have the 12 days complete, label your box with "Reverse Advent Food Appeal"

4. Drop the box to your local SVP drop off point before December 18th so that it can be distributed. To find your local depot see our list below

What can I put in the box?

We're looking for any non-perishable food item, preferably not in glass and it would be great if you could keep Christmas dinner in mind ;-)
